Science of... Survival | Science Museum & World Tour

"Your Planet Needs You!" - A World Tour

The 'Science of...' series was created by Science & Media LLP in conjunction with the internationally renowned Science Museum in London, and brought science themes to life in a highly interactive hands-on experience.

Aimed at young audiences (aged 8 - 12), The ‘Science of... Survival’ was third in a series of blockbuster exhibitions by Science & Media (following The Science of Aliens and The Science of Spying) that opened at the Science Museum before touring worldwide.

This award-winning show cleverly used characters to engage visitors and help tell a variety of different stories around environmental themes.

An important element to Enigma’s 3D interpretation was that the show be highly adaptable – and robust.

The show was designed in a modular fashion, which adapted seamlessly to a wide range of worldwide venues - including successive launches in American, European and Asian markets.

The Scotch Whisky Experience | Edinburgh's 'Royal Mile'

'All-singing and all-dancing'

Enigma’s installation for the Scotch Whisky Experience was part of a multi-million pound makeover for one of Scotland’s leading visitor attractions.

The exhibit displays the largest whisky collection in the world – some 3,500 bottles – while drawing visitors into the world of whisky-making.

Enigma’s specialist divisions combined to create a clever mix of ride, images, lighting, graphics and audio-visual – stimulating the senses like, well, a rather good single malt whisky.

Launching the experience, Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond enthusiastically described it as “all-singing and all-dancing”.

People And The Planet | At-Bristol, UK

A Walk on the Wild Side

The final part of the award-winning At-Bristol’s WildWalk experience needed to create a real buzz as the culmination of years of work developing this outstanding environment-themed exhibit.

Enigma worked alongside At-Bristol’s 3D team to deliver audio-visuals (AV) and graphics that could be ‘reverse engineered’ into earlier phases to create an excellent fit – and make a real splash.

Building on our earlier graphic and AV work on Great Apes for At-Bristol, Enigma produced 7 linear metre, 3 metre high sections of top-qualitygraphics designed to seamlessly fit together into a total surface graphic area of over 178 linear metres! The solution allowed for exhibits, interactivity, looped AV and floor-to-ceiling graphics – all capable of flexible updating as needed.

There were rave reviews from the client, press, public, other museums and celebrity astronomer and millennium commissioner Heather Couper – who rated it the best exhibit she’d seen. Now the idea is to use the visual style throughout the larger exhibition.

Great Apes Exhibition | At-Bristol & UK Tour

Going Ape

The At-Bristol centre asked Enigma to create a highly interactive, high-impact exhibition about great apes. It had to appeal equally to children and adults, as well as deliver strong educational messaging – all in a relatively small space. And it had to be designed so it could tour venues across the UK.

Working with expert primatologists and At-Bristol, we covered subjects from physical characteristics, numbers and locations to habitats (and threats) through ‘feature areas’ like “Meet the Family” and “Apes as Individuals”. These were in turn held together with a flowing story, starting with a more scientific introduction before developing more personal engagement by covering personalities, social activities (including a rope swing for children to ape apes!) and then focussing on threats and conservation actions.

Our use of curves and flowing shapes cleverly created a more natural form and flow, enhancing intrinsic interest. From termite mounds to gorilla nests, individual elements stood out against a strongly coherent and playful graphical background.

The Forces of I.K. Brunel | At-Bristol, UK

Further. Higher. Deeper.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a legendary 19th century engineer whose designs revolutionised transport and modern engineering.

To mark 200 years since his birth, Enigma created a visual identity and high-impact educational exhibition for the At-Bristol centre to display the forces Brunel used to create his bridges, tunnels and ships.

The look and content had to appeal to younger audiences and – critically – fit with the existing exhibitions in the At-Bristol space.
